How claim support works

Inform the insurer quickly

Tell the insurer as soon as you can, within the time the policy allows, and note the claim number. Call us at the same time so we can guide you from the start.

Send complete documents

We give you a checklist for your type of claim, check every paper before it goes, and keep copies.

Follow up until a decision

We follow up with the insurer or TPA, help you answer their queries, and explain the settlement or the reason for any cut.

What we do at claim time

  • Help you inform the insurer and register the claim
  • Work with the hospital desk on cashless pre-authorisation and any extra papers they ask for
  • Give you a documents checklist and check each paper before it’s submitted
  • Follow up with the insurer or TPA and reply to their queries on time
  • Explain any deduction in the settlement, and what you can do if you disagree
  • Guide you to the insurer’s grievance cell, Bima Bharosa or the Insurance Ombudsman if needed
If your claim is delayed or rejected

First, write to the insurer’s grievance cell and keep the complaint number. If there’s no reply in time, or you aren’t satisfied with it, you can register your complaint on IRDAI’s Bima Bharosa portal. After that, you can approach the Insurance Ombudsman. Our grievance redressal page explains each step.

Documents checklist by claim type

The insurer may ask for more papers depending on the case. Keep the originals safe and make copies of everything before you submit.

FAQ

Common questions

How soon should I inform the insurer about a claim?
As soon as you can. Every policy sets time limits for informing the insurer and for sending documents. For a planned hospital stay, inform the insurer before admission. Late intimation can cause trouble, so try to call the insurer, and us, the same day.
What is cashless pre-authorisation?
At a network hospital, the hospital’s insurance desk sends a request to the insurer or TPA with your policy details and treatment plan. Once it’s approved, the insurer pays the hospital directly for covered costs, and you pay only for what isn’t covered. Our cashless claim guide explains it step by step.
How does a reimbursement claim work?
You pay the hospital yourself, then send the claim form with all original bills and reports to the insurer or TPA within the time the policy allows. They check the papers and pay the approved amount into your bank account.
What is a TPA?
A Third Party Administrator, or TPA, is a company some health insurers use to handle claims and cashless approvals. Your health card or policy shows whether a TPA handles your policy and how to reach them.
Does insurance claim help mean my claim will be approved?
No. Nobody can promise that. The insurer decides based on the policy wording, waiting periods and exclusions. What our insurance claim help does is make sure your claim is complete and on time, and that someone keeps following up, so missing papers don’t hold it up.
What can I do if my claim is delayed or rejected?
Ask the insurer for the reason in writing. If you disagree, complain to the insurer’s grievance cell. If that doesn’t solve it, you can use IRDAI’s Bima Bharosa portal and then go to the Insurance Ombudsman, which doesn’t charge a fee. See our grievance redressal page.
