Specialized Investment Funds

For larger investments, a different path.Specialized Investment Funds (SIF): from ₹10 lakh, with higher risk.

A SIF is a SEBI-regulated investment run by a mutual fund house, for investors who can put in at least ₹10 lakh and take on more risk. It can follow strategies a regular mutual fund can’t.

Who a SIF may suit

Experienced investors

You already invest in mutual funds, and you understand that returns can go down as well as up.

Those with ₹10 lakh to invest

The minimum is ₹10 lakh for each investor, counted across the SIF strategies of one fund house. This should be money you won’t need soon.

Long-term, higher-risk money

A SIF is not for your emergency fund or a near goal. It suits only a part of a wider plan.

How it works with us

First, is it right for you?

We look at what you already hold, your goals and how much risk you can truly take. For many families, regular mutual funds are enough.

Understand the strategy

We go through the strategy’s documents with you: what it invests in, how it can lose money, and when you can take money out.

Decide and review

If it fits, we help with the paperwork. Then we look at it with the rest of your investments at each review.

What we do for you

  • Explain what a SIF is, without jargon
  • Compare it with the mutual funds you already hold
  • Go through the risks and the redemption terms
  • Help with the paperwork if you decide to invest
  • Include it in your regular review
Check before you invest

If redemptions take your holding below ₹10 lakh, the fund house may redeem the rest. A fall in market value alone doesn’t trigger this. Investments in SIFs are subject to market risks.

FAQ

Common questions

What is a Specialized Investment Fund?
It is an investment category created by SEBI and run by mutual fund houses. It sits between a regular mutual fund and portfolio management, and it can use strategies a regular mutual fund can’t.
What is the minimum investment in a SIF?
₹10 lakh for each investor, checked by PAN and counted across all the SIF strategies of one fund house. Accredited investors are exempt. Your regular mutual fund holdings don’t count towards it.
Is a SIF safer than a mutual fund?
No. A SIF can take on more risk than a regular mutual fund, and you can lose money. Returns are not guaranteed.
Can I start a SIP in a SIF?
Only after you meet the ₹10 lakh minimum, and only if the strategy offers one. Ask us to check the terms of the strategy you have in mind.
Should I choose a SIF over my mutual funds?
Most families don’t need one. If you’re still building your basics, mutual funds are usually the place to start. Talk it through with our team first.
