How to use the SIP calculator

  1. Enter how much you can invest each month, from ₹500 to ₹1,00,000.
  2. Choose how many years you plan to stay invested, from 1 to 40.
  3. Pick an expected return a year between 6% and 16%. Try a few rates to see a range, not just one number.

How to read your result

Amount invested is simply your monthly amount multiplied by the number of months. Estimated returns is the growth on top of that, and total value is the two added together.

For example, ₹5,000 a month for 10 years is ₹6,00,000 invested. At an assumed 12% a year, the total value comes to about ₹11.6 lakh. The year-by-year chart shows that most of the growth comes in the later years. This is compounding: growth earns more growth over time.

These are illustrations, not promises. Mutual fund returns are market-linked, so real values go up and down along the way. Read what to do with your SIP when markets fall, or see how we help you start a SIP.

How the SIP calculator works

It uses the standard formula for money invested at the start of every month. P is your monthly amount, i is the yearly rate divided by 12 (12% a year is 0.01 a month), and n is the number of months. M is the estimated value at the end.

M = P × ({[1 + i]^n − 1} ÷ i) × (1 + i)

FAQ

Common questions

What is a SIP calculator?
A SIP calculator shows what a fixed monthly investment in a mutual fund could grow to, at a return rate you assume. It helps you see the effect of amount, time and rate before you start.
Are the SIP calculator results guaranteed?
No. The rate you enter is an assumption. Mutual fund returns depend on the market and are not fixed, so the real value can be higher or lower. Use the result as a rough guide.
What expected return should I use?
There is no single right number. Try a lower and a higher rate, for example 8% and 12%, to see a range. Our team can explain which rates are sensible to assume for your goal.
How is a SIP different from a lumpsum?
In a SIP you invest a fixed amount every month. In a lumpsum you invest one larger amount at once. A SIP spreads your buying over time, which suits people who earn and save every month. Try the lumpsum calculator to compare.
What if my income grows every year?
Then your SIP can grow every year too. The step-up SIP calculator shows how much difference a small yearly increase can make.
